Kentucky Trip And Fuel Permit - IRP and IFTA permits for Kentucky

KYU Temporary Permit

KRS138.660 (3), any carrier with a vehicle that is over 59,999 lbs. traveling in Kentucky is subject to the KYU tax. In lieu of the KYU tax we offer a 10 day vehicle specific KYU permit that costs $40.00.

International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) Temporary Permit

Carriers with vehicles over 26,001 lbs. or with 3 or more axles are subject to IFTA. Kentucky offers a temporary IFTA for 10 days, is vehicle specific, good for Kentucky only, and costs $40.00.

Kentucky Intrastate Tax (KIT Fuel) Temporary Permit

Carriers that are classified as intrastate Kentucky based carriers with vehicles over 26, 001 lbs. or with 3 or more axles are subject to the KIT fuel tax. Kentucky offers a 10 day vehicle specific temporary that costs $40.00.

Non-Reciprocal (IRP) Temporary Permit

Carriers that are not apportioned through the International Registration Plan (IRP) from their base state are required to purchase a temporary non-reciprocal permit (IRP). There are two permits based on registered weight. If the registered weight is <= 55,000 lbs. the charge is $25.00. If the registered weight is > 55,000 lbs. the charge is $40.00.

Can permits be combined?

Yes, as long as the registered weight and the operation classification allow. For example you may purchase a KYU, IFTA, and IRP > 55,001. You would not be able to purchase an IFTA and KIT on the same combo since IFTA is for interstate carriers and KIT is for intrastate carriers.

How do I pay for my temporary Kentucky Permit?

The system is designed to accept all major credit cards only. There is a 4% credit card processing fee on all purchase.
