How Activation and End Dates Are Set

  • The province monitors the thawing index trend to determine when conditions warrant activation and deactivation in each climate zone.
  • A delayed thaw can push start dates beyond published minimum dates; an earlier-than-expected thaw can bring forward deactivation.
  • Restrictions may end before the latest historical end dates if the thawing index trend supports early closure.
  • Both SRR Level 1 and Level 2 apply to all active climate zones.
  • Earliest possible start dates: March 1 (Zone 1), March 6 (Zones 24), March 12 (Zone 5).
  • Latest possible end dates: May 29 (Zone 1), May 31 (Zones 24), June 10 (Zone 5).
  • All order changes are communicated via the SRR website and Manitoba 511.
