VDOT reminds drivers that work zone safety is Everybody's Responsibility. VDOT reminds drivers who See the Cone to Respect the Zone, not just in the height of construction season, but all year long. National Work Zone Awareness Week is sponsored by:

• American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials
• American Traffic Safety Services Association

In 1998, VDOT held the very first week-long state wide campaign to promote work zone safety among both workers and drivers. The idea soon spread to other state DOTs and was officially adopted by the Federal Highway Administration the following year. As a recognized leader in transportation and champion for work zone safety, VDOT continues its 20-plus year tradition. VDOT reminds drivers who See the Cone to Respect the Zone, not just in the height of construction season, but all year long.
