New York enforce maximum truck weight laws through fines. In this state there is no law that explicitly provide prison terms for maximum weight violations. Under VTL 385-8, the fine you will receive for driving a vehicle that is overweight is a function of how overweight your vehicle happens to be. If your truck weight exceeds the maximum weight granted to you in your permit New York law may treat that as if you were never given a permit. The fines for exceeding weight limits are:
