Construction works are happening all across TN. The TnDoT has implemented the first Smar Work Zone in middle Tennessee on the State Route 109 construction project in Wilson County. This 7-mile portion of State Route 109 serves approximately 25,000 vehicles a day through the narrow two-lane corridor, including a large number of tractor trailers. There are few alternate routes once drivers get in the construction zone, so warning motorists in time for them to avoid the area is the goal of this Smart Work Zone. Slow down and always follow posted work zone speed limits.

• Stay alert and minimize distractions such as cell phones.
• Obey road crew flaggers;
• Expect the unexpected. Delays from highway construction can be frustrating, but it only takes a few extra minutes to slow down for a work zone.
• Plan ahead. Leave a few minutes early when traveling through a work zone in order to reach your destination on time.
